A Singapore-based hospitality company is days away from completing on the purchase of Sandown’s Trouville Hotel, marking the first change in ownership for more than 45 years, Island Echo understands.
The 88-bedroom property, situated on the Esplanade between Premier Inn and the now-derelict Ocean Hotel, first became a hotel in the 1930s and has been a key part of the town’s economy and identity since.
It was placed on the open market back in 2020 – with an asking price of £3million – due to the retirement plans of its owner, Paul Moorman, whose family purchased the seaside hotel back in 1978.
Island Echo understands the new owners, a joint partnership between Seacare Hospitality and Compass Hospitality, will take over the reins on Friday (22nd November) when the sale completes. The firms are headed up by Ms Mindy Yee Ming Wong, Mr Harmil Singh and Mr Omar Bin Zainulabbidin.
Seacare operates 17 other hotels around the United Kingdom, as well as a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and another in Singapore. Earlier this year they acquired the 59-room Norbreck Hotel in Scarborough and the 55-room Lord Nelson Hotel in Liverpool.
It appears the major deal to purchase the Trouville has been in the making for several months, with a company specifically for the Sandown operations registered back in August. The company formed is controlled by Seacare Hospitality (Uk) Limited and CH Holding Limited.
It’s said that the hotel will continue to be run in its current form, to the same high standards of service and hospitality that it is renowned for. Jeanette Barclay-Jay will continue in her role as Manager, with other existing staff retained.
Manpreet Kaur, a spokesperson for Compass Hospitality, comments:
“We are delighted to announce the acquisition of our first hotel in Sandown, home to one of the most popular beaches located in the Isle of Wight and an area celebrated for its distinctive landscapes and natural beauty.
“This investment marks an exciting milestone for Compass Hospitality as we expand into this new region, reinforcing our commitment to growing our portfolio of unique properties in the UK.”
Paul Moorman, along with his children James and Emily, would like to take the opportunity to express their heartfelt thanks to all tour operators and guests for their custom and support over the years.
Let’s hope someone buys the 2 dumps next door,
