Motorsport fans can look forward to the return of the Sandown Sprint in 2026, with plans to resurrect the event across the weekend of 19th-20th September – and this time, spectator entry will be completely free.
The popular Isle of Wight Speed Trials event was last held in April 2024, attracting thousands of spectators to the seaside town with a bumper entry list of competitors. However, it was announced earlier this year that the 2025 event would not go ahead due to economic and logistical challenges.
Now, in a move welcomed by fans and the local community, the Isle of Wight Car Club has confirmed it will take on full responsibility for organising the 2026 sprint, both on and off track. Unlike previous years, there will be no external promoter involved.
A key change for 2026 will be the decision to make spectator access free of charge, which organisers hope will increase attendance and boost business for Sandown’s hospitality and tourism sectors.
Discussions have already taken place with nearby businesses, and organisers say early conversations have given them high hopes for a successful return.
Partial funding has already been secured from a private donor, but further financial and logistical support is now being sought.
Local businesses and individuals interested in supporting or sponsoring the 2026 Sandown Sprint are encouraged to get in touch with the Car Club committee.
The Isle of Wight Car Club is also holding the Weaver Brothers Island Stages Rally on 15th February 2026. More details can be found at www.iowcc.co.uk/rally.

20mph is plenty
Oh do be quiet
20mph is damaging to the environment. Most cars have their lowest emissions between 50-60mph. Let’s raise all island speed limits to 55 instead!
