A man who is alleged to have crashed his car whilst almost 3.5x the drink limit has pleaded not guilty to the charge put against him
Roy Baker, 68, of Perowne Way, appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday charged with 1 count of drink driving.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on 3rd October, Mr Baker – driving his Mercedes A-class AMG – was involved in a road traffic collision on Beacon Alley near Godshill, in which his car was damaged.
Police were alerted and once at the scene requested a roadside breath test, which Mr Baker failed. He was taken to Newport Police Station where he gave a breath sample reading of 119 – more than 3x the legal limit of 35.
Mr Baker denied the charge of drink driving, pleading not guilty in court.
The 68-year-old was granted unconditional bail until he is due back to the Magistrates Court for trial on 12th January.

What a waste of the courts time
He should be made to pay the full court costs and have a maximum sentence when convicted.
Failed a Breath Test but pleaded not guilty!
What’s this fella on?!?!?! You can kiss goodbye to your licence and it serves you right. Drink drivers are selfish and stupid. With a reading of 113, thank God he didn’t cause a serious accident and injury to someone.
Probably trying on a hipflask defence. “I had a drink after I crashed to steady my nerves!”.
Another DFL. Send him back to where he came from (Chessington). We don’t want people like him on the Island.
