60-year-old Jonathan Christopher Stasiuk from Sandown has appeared in court this morning (Thursday) accused of the murder of 73-year-old Gerry White in Lake on the Isle of Wight.
Stasiuk, of Pier Street, appeared before Magistrates at around 10:00 and spoke only to confirm his name, age and address and that he understood the charge against him.
Flanked by a security guard, an unshaven Stasiuk stood and listened to the court proceedings. He was wearing a grey top and grey trousers.
The court heard Jonathan Stasiuk is accused of murdering former local councillor Gerry White at Lake Community Gardens on Bank Holiday Monday (27th May 2019).
The hearing lasted just 10 minutes. In the public gallery, former Conservative MP Andrew Turner watched on.
The case is too serious for magistrates to deal with and therefore it has been sent to the Crown Court. Mr Stasuik has been remanded in custody and will appear before Winchester Crown Court on Monday 3rd June 2019.
