Sandown Mayor Alex Lightfoot and Sandown Town Councillors recently organised an end-of-season thank you and presentation of certificates to the lifeguards who provided beach safety for residents and visitors throughout the Summer.
Recent incidents highlighted the value of the service and the difference it has made to those who use the beach, working with local concessionaires and the Town Council to provide accessible beach matting, wheelchairs, and the newly opened Changing Places facility.
Lifeguard Manager Todd Miller and his team were on hand to receive the certificates.
Town Mayor Alex Lightfoot said:
“Todd and the team have again provided high quality services, that have been responsive and reactive, as well as sensitive and supportive, and the feedback we have had highlights the importance of the service”.
Speaking on a successful season, Todd added:
“We’ve been able to develop the facility, including the Lifeguard Station, in Partnership with the Town Council, and would thank the local concessionaires and Independent Lifeboat Service, for their support this season”.
The Lifeguard service has also supported beach cleaning, regatta and carnivals, and will provide support at the Remembrance Day in November.
Alex concluded:
“We wish all the lifeguards good luck in their career pathways, and look forward to their return in 2025 – and thank them again for ensuring a safe and successful summer”.
