Samphire, a dance group for dancers aged 55+, has once again taken to dancing outside, this time, in the woods.
From the moment of its inception, director Michelle Hainsworth has been keen to give the group a variety of opportunities to create, dance and perform.
Made up of people in their 50s, 60s and 70s, Samphire consists of people from all walks of life. There are a number of retired teachers, social workers, a GP, a nurse and numerous others who come together every Thursday to dance.
Some have had dance training, some are new to dance, but they all share a common goal in that they have an appetite for learning and an enjoyment of working together on dance projects.
There is always lots of laughter and they had a really lovely time improvising in the woods.
This year Samphire are excited to be working once again with musician Sandy Kealty and local film maker, Paul Windridge. Paul enjoys experimenting with a variety of effects to encourage people to see things with fresh eyes.
Michelle says:
“We felt truly privileged to share a dance film at BalletWorks, the gala organised by Robert Robinson, to raise money for the Mountbatten Centre. It was an amazing evening.”
Samphire will be taking on new members in September. If you are 55 or over, reasonably fit, and would love to spend your Thursday afternoons dancing with an incredible bunch of people, then call Michelle Hainsworth on 01983 754189 to find out more about a taster day.
