Local businessman and community supporter Ed Day is undertaking an Arctic Circle expedition to raise vital funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
This week, Ed will take part in a gruelling husky sled journey covering approximately 270 kilometres across the Arctic wilderness, enduring extreme sub-zero temperatures and remote conditions.
The challenge, which will last just over a week, is part of a wider fundraising effort from a group of Isle of Wight participants, who have already collectively raised over £50,000 for the charity.
Mountbatten Isle of Wight holds deep personal significance for Ed, who has seen firsthand the impact of its care and support.
Ed has said:
“Mountbatten is an incredible charity that supports not only people who are terminally ill, but also their families. I’ve had far too many friends who have needed their care, and I’ve seen just how phenomenal they are.
“When I was asked to take on this challenge, I didn’t hesitate. It’s going to be tough – I’ve never driven a husky sled before and we’ll be facing extreme conditions – but it’s all for such a worthy cause. Every penny raised will go directly to the hospice, and I’m incredibly grateful for any support people can give.”

Ed has chosen to personally fund the cost of the expedition, ensuring that all donations go directly to Mountbatten Isle of Wight. As he prepares to take on one of his most demanding challenges yet, he is calling on the local community to support, donate and share his fundraising efforts.
Despite limited connectivity during the expedition, Ed hopes to share updates and photos where possible, keeping supporters informed throughout his journey.
This Arctic challenge not only highlights Ed’s commitment to supporting Island charities but also shines a spotlight on the essential work carried out by Mountbatten, providing compassionate care when it matters most.
