Ryde Town Council has announced that they have signed up to the national Civility & Respect Pledge, joining 128 other local councils in putting respect at the top of the agenda and starting a culture change for the local council sector.
The pledge has been put together with bodies such as SLCC, NALC, OVW and County Associations to press the need for every council to treat councillors, employees, members of the public and volunteers with civility and respect in their role.
As part of the pledge Ryde Town Council also agree to sign up to a Code of Conduct, have a training plan in place for all councillors and staff and to call out bullying and harassment should it ever occur.
Mayor Michael Lilley, who signed the pledge on Wednesday, has said:
“Ryde Town Council have a long tradition of striving to constantly improve as an organisation. This pledge cements our already strong polices around a number of areas to help further support the community of Ryde. Nobody should ever be bullied or harassed and this pledge means that our meetings, both public and private, will continue to be open forums where opinions and questions can be heard and discussed properly and without fear.
The pledge also includes sanctions for elected members wherever appropriate which is important because, as councillors, we represent the community and it is only right that we are held accountable for any actions that we make.”

More PC bs to waste time and money on.
What utter rubbish, how were they treating people in the past? just provide a service and get off this pathetic virtue signalling band wagon.
What a load of ********
How about respect
Honesty and telling it like it really is, is so much more important than pretending or just paying ‘lip service’ to others imo. Most councillors, and their employees and the public are out of play school now.
At least you know where you stand when people are honest with you.
Fine, as long as it doesn’t overrule free speech
There is no such thing as free speech anymore, it was banned a long time ago. Up the wokes, yes, right up them!
