A 23-year-old Ryde man who led Police on a short pursuit, whilst also drug driving with his 18-month-old daughter in the passenger seat, will be sentenced next month.
Cameron Goodman-Wright, of Prince Street, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Friday) charged with drug driving and failing to stop when required to do so by Police.
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said that on 11th June this year, at around 11:30, Police received reports of a vehicle of interest being driven in the Ryde area.
Whilst travelling around, an on-duty Road Policing officer noticed the vehicle – a BMW 3-series converitable – passing him. He immediately turned around and followed the vehicle along Brading Road, flashing his lights and signalling for the driver of the German motor to stop.
Instead of stopping his vehicle and pulling over, the driver, Goodman-Wright, continued to travel along Brading Road without stopping, missing the traffic lights on the junction with Great Preston Road by heading through the forecourt of Westridge Garage.
The 23-year-old then proceeded to head along Great Preston Road before heading down Smallbrook Lane. Further down the road, near the railway bridge, Goodman-Wright admitted defeat, signalling to the pursuing officer by waving his hands out the window.
A roadside drugs wipe was conducted in a layby which returned a positive reading for cannabis. It was here that officers noticed that Goodman-Wright had a passenger – his 18-month-old daughter, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Blood tests conducted at Newport Police Station showed that the cannabis in the 23-year-old’s system was more than double the prescribed limit.
All of Goodman-Wright’s previous convictions are vehicle-related. He was previously disqualified from the roads for 2 years for totting (exceeding the points limit on his licence).
Magistrates have ordered the case be adjourned to allow a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
Goodman-Wright will next appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 3rd November. He has been handed an interim driving ban in the meantime.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed is he?

German motor, surely you mean “whip”
Why can’t that registration be found on the DVLA site?
False plates ?
Maybe it’s changed to personal plates, or car has met crusher lol
i managed to find his plate and the tax is sorn apparently and the mot ran out 2019…oh dear
Driving with NO Mot on the island is the norm
Poor child having a dad willing to risk your safety running from the Police. A futile dodge on a small island
The poor child will sadly be wayward with a Father who does such crimes.
I am afraid this person can no longer be considered as a caring father. He only cares for himself and his drug needs. He needs to be sent away until he is clean. He should consider himself lucky that he is not on a manslaughter/murder charge. One assumes his wife also knows his drug problems. If so, their baby daughter needs to be placed in care until adopted by human beings who truly care about children. Giving birth does not qualify you as a good parent.
