The RSPCA on the Isle of Wight are calling upon Islanders to help them help animals just days after the rescue of 65 dogs from Cowes.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Fellows Road on Monday night after concerns were raised for the welfare of a large number of animals. A total of 65 dogs were seized from a hire van and subsequently a residential property before being handed into the care of the RSPCA.
Now, the local centre at Bohemia Corner in Godshill are appealing for donations to help with donations of money to help cover the cost of medical bills, plus donations of small-breed dog food, canned wet dog food (Chappie is preferred), small breed dog collars, sheets and blankets.
It is thought the majority of the dogs seized by Police, if not all, are Chihuahuas. This coincides with the RSPCA saying they need at least 60 small breed leads.
Islanders looking to support the RSPCA are this time can donate online via www.rspca-iowbranch.org.uk or by calling 01983 840287. You can also visit the animal centre in Godshill or any of our RSPCA charity shops on the Island.
Taking to Facebook this afternoon, a spokesperson for the RSPCA said:
“It costs over £2000 each day to keep RSPCA Isle of Wight Animal Centre running. We currently receive no funding from other sources so the branch is responsible for raising all the money locally to stay open and to operate as a community animal shelter – to do this we need the support of animal-lovers on the Isle of Wight!
“Many animals come into the centre after being rescued by RSPCA inspectors from unimaginable levels of cruelty, neglect or abuse. Teams of staff and volunteers at the rescue centre then go to extraordinary lengths to rehabilitate and rehome the animals in our care yet this can sadly take time, and money, with some animals facing extensive veterinary treatment and long-term care.
“Every individual animal’s life matters to us and, as animal lovers, we do everything we can to help, and hope you will too! Thank you for your much needed support”.
Donated food yesterday. It was well received.
HOW DOES SOMEONE GET AWAY WITH 65 DOG’S…… For so long the thing is the poor dog’s can not be re homed with kids under the age of 14….. That’s why the RSPCA have so many dog’s
They have seized the animals and are building a case on said person
As the rspca always say at the trials of people they are prosecuting, if you can’t afford to have animals, don’t have them.
It is outrageous that the main charity RSPCA do not hand over some of the millions of donations they received in. This is why people donate to the charity to help these animal’s out. Not so it be banked and squandered on high payrolls and fancy offices. Ask your head office for the funds
RSPCA have millions of £’s in the bank, why dont they ask their HQ for some of it ?
Tried to adopt a couple of months ago, turned down as I live in a flat, ground floor flat with its own enclosed garden, too much red tape theses days
Donated
