Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been told that they need to improve in their crime prevention and response to the public following a recent inspection.
In a recent report published by His Majesty’s Inspectors of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS), the force was graded as ‘good’ in 3 areas of policing, ‘adequate’ in 4 and ‘requires improvement’ in 2.
Among the areas that the force was graded good in were; recording data, treatment of the public and developing a positive workplace in which the force was praised for promoting an ethical and inclusive culture at all levels.
Praise was also given to the way the force speak to and treat the public with it noted that people were treated with fairness and respect and that stop and search powers were monitored
In terms of the areas that require improvement, it was noted that there wasn’t a clear strategy and direction for members of the neighbourhood policing team and that not all officers and or staff understood fully how to implement best practice. It was also said that action was needed to ensure that officers were able to carry out tasks such as visible patrols and engaging with the public with officers less visible on their beat as a result.
How call handlers record risk assessments was also analysed with the inspection finding that victims’ needs weren’t properly assessed based on the information that was recorded during the initial call.
Overall, the inspection found that the force was managed efficiently given that it has 1 of the lowest amounts of funding per head of population in England and Wales, which influences the decisions leaders have to make about where to focus resources.
It has taken action to address its most high-risk problems, such as backlogs in assessing risk to vulnerable people, but now needs to satisfy itself that it is using all resources in the most effective way.
In response to the publication of this report, Chief Constable Scott Chilton has said:
“It’s no secret that Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is one of the lowest funded forces in the country. The report recognises this, highlighting the difficult decisions we have to make to ensure we prioritise responding to those in urgent need of help and investigating serious and complex crimes.
“It is still early days. Together, we are building something local and very exciting in Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. As well as being a chief constable and a local resident, many of my family and friends also live here. I have the same expectation that our communities do, that Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is not just safe for everyone, but feels safe too.”
A total joke, they have no interest in the public or maintaining law and order, their sole interest is in ticking boxes.
Their call operators are beyond abysmal, if you try to report a crime you get told to do it on line and just want every detail of you rather than those of the offender then you just get given a “crime number” and that is the end of that.
Despite all of jones’s gushing statements we have a dysfunctional and incompetent, lazy force who are not fit for purpose and largely neither trusted nor respected by the majority of the public.
I think this report is utter tosh. They’re loony lefties, trying to justify their jobs by finding fault. I was talking to Scott at the club the other day and he assured me that the force was flourishing after all of the cuts over the last 10 years. Indeed, crime in my house is now almost at zero. Shame on them.
Too many lazy pigs out there
Could start by answering 101 instead of recorded messages that go on and on. Often police ask for public help and ask ring 101,sure once you try and already anxious after not getting an interested human they hang up – wonder if police have a record of calls to 101 that end before getting through to call staff ?. Having less funding per head should not make any difference as at the moment we also have less crime per head compared to cities etc
I had a situation over 20 years ago, called plod and they never turned up.
Complete waste of Tax payers money
With regards to stop and search powers um they don’t actually have any and they shouldn’t this is not Nazi Germany after all the reality is you do not have to stop and talk to a cop never mind answer their questions if you don’t want too unless they have REASONABLE SUSPICION that you have committed about to commit or are committing a crime are carrying a weapon or something that can be used as a weapon or carrying illegal drugs or have been authorised to stop and question and search you by an officer of the rank of inspector as for how they talk to and treat the public I don’t talk to the cops period but based on my past experience with them they constantly forget they are PUBLIC SERVANTS and over step the bounds of their authority
Don’t have any problems with stop and search or talking to them as I have nothing to hide , I do have issue that they don’t respond half the time (call centre delay deployment, road traffic accident not interested or they send 6 car’s and close road an hour later when public have been directing traffic fine and ambulance present) and more interested in ticking boxes , if do get through to call centre they are more interested in you’re details than the person committing a crime , you couldn’t report a crime taking place without giving your own details first.

So apparently then they are good at admin, saying hello to Joe Public (when they are going through Burger King drive in) and woke practices for their staff.
Not too good a score on what you would describe as actual police work for which they are publicly funded.
Cont: talk to you with a patronising condescending arrogant attitude and if your the victim of a crime treat YOU more like the perpetrator of the crime they need to remember their place and that they are merely public servants in our employ and don’t actually have any power or authority over anyone until you commit a crime

I class parking on pavements blocking pedestrian walkways and causing an obstruction to other motorists

Also when driving along many Island Roads and Streets the amount of times
Cyclists and Scooters cycle or scoot towards oncoming vehicles.
When driving look in your rear view mirror and 90% of the time the person in the
vehicle behind you are texting.
Yet only a couple of years ago people were fined for sitting on benches.
The whole Law system is strange.

So we have one of the highest charges yet get the lowest funding.
That makes perfect sense.
Then again, it fits with the island also having pretty much the highest council tax in the country
yet being massively underfunded and cutting services.
Looking forward to the Coronation celebrations though – That 4.3p per head the local council is planning to spend is really going to show us all just how much the residents of Sandown are getting for their £220 local precept.
Still, with no food or drink on offer, the queue for the new portacabin, er… public toilets, won’t be too long.

this is fake post surely??? i have never read so much bull in my life, get spoke to like crap by not only officers on the street also when they step out in front of ya car expecting you to just stop and move round while they just get their lunch, and then think its funny after. get false advice by a 999 police call receiver and spoke to like c**p again. and after suffering 1 of most horrific attacks on me i got no safe guard and not 1 single bit of communication from police after that other than “we’ve closed the case”. an the worst by far when i was 18 out drinking i badly needed police help and seeked it from a female police officer parked close by, when i did and i was crying and pleading help i got told to f**k off home im drunk.
