REFURB WORKS TO SEE HSBC IN NEWPORT CLOSED FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS

HSBC in Newport is to close for more than 2 weeks later this month so that refurbishment works can take place. The reason for the closure is for refurbishment works to take place, with the branch to temporarily close from Thursday 25th April. It was in 2023 that the Ryde branch closed down leaving the Newport premises – located on St James’ Street – as the only remaining branch on the Island. Nearby Natwest is to replace its single ATM outside of the branch as part of a national upgrade programme. Some of the services offered by the bank can be accessed at the Post Office in Central on High Street The St James’ Street branch is due to reopen at 09:30 on Tuesday 14th May.

Does not surprise me of all the accidents that take place on the
Island, have you seen the way many of the Islands buses are being
driven.
Many of the drivers are ruthless, especially knowing they have
members of the public on board.

Bloody youths driving coaches way too fast. Something should be done. I blame Wightlink for putting traffic in there. Island roads need to get some more traffic lights in and slow everyone down. Two inpatient gabions causing misery for everyone. Build a bridge.

Youths? What makes you presume this, the older generation has created such a bad (and false may I add) representation of the younger PSV drivers both bus and coach, soon the industry will be deprived of staff to the point where services are cut, then comments like this will come back to fruition.

You know nothing karen – a mini slammed their brake on running in tandom with another vehicle and both used brakes unnessaszily recorded on a car dash cam passed to police hence the mini driver being cautioned for dangerous driving at the roadside!

Larger vehicles need extra space as pointed out in Highway Code 221-223.
And it’s against Highway Code to not let a bus pull out from bus stops! So your probably the dangerous driver!

Let me tell you. That coach is in bad need for a service or the driver is heavy on the right foot. The black smoke that comes out from the exhaust. Talk about kids and their lungs.

I believe that before making statements about the vehicle needing to be serviced, you should speak with the operator of the vehicle. I have every Safety Inspection Sheet which ensures I am compliant with the DVSA. Each vehicle in the fleet goes through a thorough Safety Inspection and is fully serviced. Emmissions tests are regularly carried out as an extra safety measure.

Ok well in that case the driver floors the pedal. Because unspent fuel bellows from the exhaust. I know I have been behind it many times to put that in your pipe.

If that’s the case then we as drivers would notice it, and if we do then it gets sorted straight away, plus these vehicle get inspected every 6 weeks and if there’s a problem then they get taken off the road, but how do you know it’s this coach that bellows out black smoke?? As three of them are exactly the same ‍♂️‍♂️

“Each vehicle in the fleet goes through a thorough safety inspection”, a simple Google search of your company shows less than 3 weeks ago Island Coach Services received a formal warning for maintenance shortcomings from The Traffic Commissioner after a DVSA inspection on maintenance.

Reply to  John D

If you had any understanding of this, you would know that the maintenance had no short comings, it was the lack of paperwork provided to the operator which has now been addressed. As I stated, the vehicles are safety inspected and this has been acknowledged by the Traffic Commissioner.

I have noted your comments Gary, as a self-employed worker for First Travel Solutions and Wight Coaches, I feel this is a comment that really is not required or appreciated. It is difficult enough when something goes wrong, to have people like you commenting unnecessarily is very unhelpful. I have passed these remarks to FTS.
