The ferry operator has carried 4.7% more cars, 9.6% more coaches and 2.8% more passengers in the first 8 months of the year, compared to 2014. Red Funnel has also outperformed the total cross-Solent market, which saw an increase in cars and passengers of 3.1% and 1.3% respectively between January and August vs. the same period last year.
Customer satisfaction has also improved with 94% of customers rating Red Funnel as excellent or good in reviews posted via Feefo compared to 92% in 2014. The company has also been awarded Certificates of Excellence from Tripadvisor for the last 3 years and has won two customer service categories in the 2015 London & SE Contact Centre Forum Awards.
Red Funnel has also been shortlisted for ‘Ferry Operator of the Year’ for the second year in succession in the UK’s National Transport Awards. The 2015 winner will be announced at a glitzy awards ceremony on 8th October.
Kevin George, CEO of Red Funnel, said:
“It has been a busy year for the company as we continue to invest heavily in improving the travel experience for our customers. The £2.2m interior refurbishment of Red Osprey in April has been a huge success and the £6m order for Red Jet 6 underlines our commitment to the Southampton/West Cowes route. The new 40m Hi-Speed catamaran will enter service in July 2016 and we are delighted that the order marks the return of fast ferry building to the Isle of Wight.
“Our plans for new terminals in both Southampton and East Cowes are moving forward and our exciting new “My Rewards” loyalty scheme already has thousands of members signed-up ahead of its official launch on 21 September 2015. We are confident the scheme will underpin further growth in the business in 2016”.
A planning application for the redevelopment of East Cowes has been submitted this week.
