UPDATED: Firefighters are attending a property fire at an address on Perowne Way in Sandown this afternoon (Wednesday).
2 appliances from Sandown and Ryde are on the scene near to Jeals Lane, alongside 2 officers.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident in the terraced property at around 13:10.
UPDATE @ 13:50 – A pan left unattended on a hob has been blamed for sparking the emergency response.
It has been confirmed that fire crews were called to the scene after neighbours spotted smoke issuing from the building. Thankfully, no body has been injured and the damage is minimal thanks to the swift actions of neighbours and firefighters.
Positive Pressure Ventilation has been used to rid the building of smoke and a thermal imaging camera used to check for any hotspots. Firefighters forced entry to the property.
Tim Spencer-Peet of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is reminding Islanders to make sure that pans are not left unattended and that equipment is turned off before leaving the house.
Resident should ensure they conduct their weekly home fire safety checks, such as testing smoke alarms. On this occasion smoke alarms were fitted and did sound, however the ground floor alarm has now been upgraded by the fire service.
