A 40-year-old man from Havant remains in Police custody this lunchtime (Tuesday) after being tasered and arrested by officers at the Red Funnel ferry terminal in East Cowes last night.
Police responded to Ferry Road at 21:54 to reports that a suspected drink driver had boarded the Red Osprey vehicle ferry in Southampton and was causing a disturbance.
When the ferry docked in East Cowes, officers moved in to detain the male. However, his behaviour led to a taser being deployed in order to successfully control the situation and handcuff the suspect.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the 40-year-old was found with a knife in his possession, for which he was arrested.
He was taken into custody at Newport Police station on suspicion of possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place. He remains there this afternoon.

Was he drunk or not??….as for the knife I expect he will get nothing more than a slapped wrist…
Excellent job done. Well-done to the Island Police again. Another potential killer, either by killing someone in his car or stabbing someone prevented. And a big Well-done to the red funnel staff too. Zero tolerance to these p*** heads.
Unfortunately he won’t go to prison though just a fine probably!
More crime again coming to this beautiful island
100 years ago a boy of 10 years old was put in prison for playing football in Newport square, crimes been here already just got a bit pointier and more lucrative
Put him a dingy and point him toward Southampton
Probably heard what a dangerous place the island is and wanted to protect himself
If we had a tunnel, he could have ploughed into something coming the other way and gone up in a fireball, or he could have done his stabbing and be back on the mainland as he wouldnt have been caught on the ferry. fortunate indeed there will never be a fixed link, then we would learn about crime..
