The National Police Air Support helicopter from RAF Benson in Oxford is circling the skies above Newport this afternoon (Sunday) as a search for a local man gets underway.
Police are said to be located on the ground at Carisbrooke Priory at Mountjoy.
Island Echo understands officers are searching for a male who lives at the unit.
UPDATE @ 18:30 – WightSAR, the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team, have been deployed by Police this evening.
Police have not yet issued an appeal for information.
UPDATE MONDAY – It has been confirmed that the search was for a missing person after concerns were raised for their welfare.
They were found safe and well.
