Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has issued a response following the vandalism of graves and historically important memorials in Ryde last week.
Last Friday (8th May), the Isle of Wight Council appealed to the public via Facebook, sharing that several stone memorials at Ryde Cemetery had been vandalised over recent weeks.
“We received a report at 5:47pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026 of criminal damage to a stone memorial at Ryde Cemetery, West Street. It is believed the damage had been caused some time the previous day.
Article continues below this advertisement “Officers exhausted all lines of enquiry in relation to this matter and no arrests were made. This investigation has now been filed pending any further information coming to light.”
They have encouraged members of the public to continue reporting similar incidents to us using the reference 44260199122.
Anyone stooping so low attacking memorials must be sick in the
head.
