Police were called to the derelict Ocean Hotel in Sandown last night (Saturday) following reports that a group of youths in possession of knives were inside the building.
6 units responded to the suspicious incident on the Esplanade at 17:58.
Hampshire Constabulary say the initial report was that a group of around 3 young people were inside the hotel with knives. However, following further enquiries, it was established that no knives were actually seen by the people who reported the incident.
No knives were found either.
Officers stood down from the incident by 18:45.
So what happened ? Were there any vandals..
Well as soon as knifes are mentioned, the police respond, remember that when making a 999 call about disturbances, ect ,or groups roaming your roads trying doors ect.
Doesn’t work if you mention guns.
Correct Bert. We had a man threatening people with a knife in my road a year back and the police deployed seven vehicles including a dog van and armed response unit. Police protocols are different these days.
I’ve have just seen a stray dog in ashey I think he’s got a knife.
Why has the poor old Ocean not been secured to stop these kids going in there and getting up to whatever they think of? The IOW Council need to keep the pressure on to get the place cleared up and made secure.
The answer is to get tough with youngsters,
they think the Law does not apply to them.
