Motorists are facing delays in and around Newport this morning (Wednesday) as a result of a road traffic collision on Medina Way.
It is thought 3 vehicles – 2 cars and a van – have been involved in the dual carriageway smash, which has taken place on the southbound carriageway near to the Riverway slip road.
The road remains open but is down to a single lane.
UPDATE – The incident has now been cleared.
No one has been seriously injured.

This is getting beyond the joke now, something needs to be done about our roads.
Everyday there seems to be a accident of some kind on the Island.
Main landers need to understand that islanders go at a slower pace we’ve got no motorways here and only 1 mile ish of dual carriageway.
Island Roads you need to sort out these problems before just going round and resurfacing roads that don’t need to be done.
Locals are going too fast as well
The issue isn’t about mainlanders coming over or the resurfacing, it’s about the drivers themselves and the issue is the standard of driving over here is pretty poor! The amount of times I’ve seen people on their phones or texting is ridiculous!
People need to take care when driving, check your mirrors, signal properly, be considerate to other road users and then this island would be a much safer place.
How is this anything to do with Island Roads ? It’s more to do with drivers not paying full attention to what’s going on around them…
It amazes me all the time people saying speed is the issue. What happened to driving “properly “. Mirror ,signal, manoeuvre. Seems no one gives a damn and drive how they like. It seems the same drivers who don’t use lights when they should are the same ones who can’t be bothered to indicate. Very selfish and dangerous! If people could drive properly we wouldn’t be getting all these ‘incidents”.
Idiot
don’t you ever have anything constructive to say?
Sorry Paul I don’t think its just mainlanders who speed I think some of the drivers over here are terrible and I think it is because we have no motorways over here and there is no real safe road to put your foot down I must say when we go over to the mainland I feel a lot safer with the driving over there most drivers know what they doing
island are crap drivers
I disagree. Everyone has the same UK driving license, no matter whether they’re from the mainland or the island. Everyone has the same license and should drive exactly the same as eachother.
Why is it always down to the mainland people? Most of the people on that island now are mainlanders. It’s just a case of to many idiots in a rush fgs
Nutters jumping the que and butting in
IT IS ALL VERY WELL BLAMING MAINLAND DRIVERS AND ISLAND ROADS CANT DO RIGHT BY SOME PEOPLE ? YOU LOT MOAN ABOUT THE STATE OF ROADS ,POTHOLES ETC THEN WHEN THEY ARE FIXED YOU MOAN ??
NOTICE IT HAS DRIZZLED TODAY AND THIS WILL BRING ALL THE OIL,AND TYRE RUBBER TO THE SURFACE ISLAND ROADS CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THAT . ALL DRIVERS ,ISLAND AND MAINLAND SHOULD CONSIDER THIS AND DRIVE TO CONDITIONS
More bad driving on the I o w
Driving is horrendous on the dual carriageway, cars cutting in and out. Do the police know?? or are they just waiting to be called when there’s an accident
Thumbs up Phil mcavity
Every day I see people using the slip road as a T junction .No idea how to filter . And people on the carriageway who do not know that traffic emerging from a slip road has right of way .
I always thought the traffic ON the dual carriageway has the right of way. Surely it’s the traffic wanting to join needs to join when safe as you are. Oming from another road
i dont think its any worse nowadays just reported quicker as u had to wait till friday to read selected accident reports in the county press.
on the other hand goto mcdonalds in ryde and watch how many turn right towards ryde as they come out, theres a sign NO RIGHT TURN people choose to ignore the road signs and drive however they please.
There is a give way dotted line at the exit of the slip road which surprisingly means Give Way. Quite a few drivers ignore this as they think they have a right of way. When traffic is slow the filtering works well but at any speed making somebody change lanes by just pulling out regardless is a big no no.
Sorry to correct you .but those lines are not give way lines . They are a lane marker .give way lines are wider and in two rows .
Traffic merging from a slip road has right of way.
@peter avery …. Your caps lock appears to be stuck.
Maybe driving instructors need to redo there test befor passing any more people here and also make it compulsory to have mainland lessons too for the learners here,as a half tedt here and half test mainland befor they get a pass for here….
I’m fed up with seeing old and new drivers that have quite obviously only driven here come to a junction or dot in the road called a round about and watch who is going first….that’s just an example….half the traffic lights aren’t needed where they are and when they are not working traffic flows rather efficiently, so why have them? .they cause most of the delays ….
It’s because good drivers are nervous of what poor ones will do at a roundbout, that causes them to wait when they have right of way! About traffic lights, the Government has recently realised that their targetted new grant billions to improve traffic flows – including to us – is a BIG mistake because they rely on NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS. Ours would be replacing Sy Mary’s roundabout and replacing it with lights. The Government has NOW found, from the first few schemes carried out so far, that the traffic lights actually WORSEN the flow outside of rush hours. Is our Council going to STOP going ahead with it then?? Or just go ahead and make things worse?
