UPDATED: POLICE CALLED TO CLIFF EDGE AT LAKE

Police are in attendance at Battery Gardens between Sandown and Shanklin this morning (Tuesday) over concerns for the welfare of an individual. 

Officers are diverting members of the public away from the public recreation area at Lake whilst they talk with the individual concerned.

It is thought HM Coastguard have been requested at the scene.

Hampshire Constabulary responded to the incident at just before 08:30.

UPDATE @ 09:20 – The incident has been brought to a safe conclusion.

Police have managed to talk down a man that was situated on the wrong side of the railings.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have been stood down.
