Potentially dangerous marine flares that washed ashore at Brighstone are said to have been removed by a member of the public, with Police now alerted to the situation.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to Grange Chine off Military Road this afternoon (Wednesday) following a report of a container of Marine Flares having washed ashore and further objects in the surf.
Once on scene it was reported to officers that the flares had been removed by a member of public.
A spokesperson for Needles CRT has said:
”We can’t stress enough how dangerous and even volatile degraded TEPs (Time Expired Pyrotechnics) can be”.
Police have been informed of the situation.
The incident was the second of the day for Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, with the team previously attended to an injury woman at Alum Bay.
Solent Coastguard tasked the West Wight team at 13:41 after it was reported that a female had become injured near the cliff lift on the beach.
Initial casualty care was given by tourist attraction staff before the woman was handed over to Coastguard Rescue Officers, who assisted with moving the casualty to the top of the cliff.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service met with the casualty and conveyed her to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
