Platform One music college enjoyed another successful year at the Isle of Wight Festival as their students played across multiple stages during the 4-day event.
Described as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Island’s education system the centre keeps growing and recently celebrated 21 years of success.
Involved in the festival since its reincarnation in 2002 Platform One remains significantly involved with festival boss John Giddings a patron.
John Giddings, Managing Director, Solo (Isle of Wight Festival) said:
“I am very proud to be a patron of Platform One. I think they do an incredible job of preparing young musicians for the reality of the music industry. I like helping people and my work with Platform One feels the right thing to do – they have integrity, and they are good at what they do.”
This year Platform One degree students took to the main stage with Greek Tragedies opening Saturday and Beth Brookfield opening Sunday.
There were 6 Platform One projects on Kashmir Stage. Macke Fetch Happen opened ElectroLove, with Arctic Junkies and David Bowies tribute bands playing to a capacity crowd whilst the Platform One Stage was based in the main arena.
Over 40 emerging bands performed this year and Platform One students also worked as Artist Liaison for the main stage setting up dressing rooms and working alongside artist management.
David Pontin – Education Director, said:
“The opportunities for Platform One students at this internally acclaimed festival are incredible. We are always so proud of each and every student. They continuously deliver and are so professional – it is amazing !”

Like playing live and not getting paid for it?
Also used them as ‘Artist Liaison’. More free labour.
