Plans to install a near 65ft 5G mast in an Isle of Wight town are being strongly opposed by numerous locals who are voicing concerns around public safety, the devaluation of property and the impact on the natural landscape.
The plans – submitted by MBNL – would see a 20m monopole with supporting 9 no antenna apertures, 2 no 0.3m dishes to include ancillary 6 no cabinets installed.
MBNL, or Mobile Broadband Network Limited, is owned jointly by EE and Three – 2 of the UK’s leading mobile operators.
It is proposed that the monopole is installed on Perowne Way near the junction with Station Approach.
Submitted to the Isle of Wight Council at the start of February, several objections have already been lodged. Among them, are several concerns for public health given the close proximity to a busy residential area and a local secondary school.
Other objectors have stated that the mast would be ‘unsightly’ and ‘not in-keeping’ with the surrounds of the area, whilst one objector bemoaned the fact that the installation would be right in the middle of a conservation area.
The applications states that Councillor Ian Ward, The Bay Church of England School and the Sandown Family Centre were all consulted in November 2024, however no responses were received at the time the plans were submitted.
Anyone wishing to view the plans can do so on the Isle of Wight Planning Portal quoting 25/00184/16APA.
Does this mean that those of you who complained will not need to use 5G?
They have forced 5H on people.
Tesco etc are doing away with 3G, in the end it is all
about control.
For once, I agree with you
Fears for public health, are these from the same people who cover themselves in bacofoil and only eat tofu, there are people who actually work on the island where fast and reliable communication is vital. Perhaps we should all go back to living in the dark and eating coal .
Then let’s install a few in Bembridge
I hope they get planning. The comments are nimbyism as their best. Unsightly and not in keeping are arguments of the 90’s. I’ll bet every single objector has a mobile phone in their pocket.
Why ? bacon foil hats out again then..
To be honest. Lot’s of the residents are still getting used to light switches…..
