Plans have been submitted by EON for an 8-bay electric vehicle charging forecourt on land at Merrie Gardens in Lake – the first of its kind on the Isle of Wight.
An application has been lodged with the Isle of Wight Council relating to a 0.10 hectares parcel of brownfield land wedged between the Merrie Gardens pub and KFC.
The proposed development by EON Drive Infrastructure UK would see the formation of an 8-bay electric vehicle charging forecourt, along with a sub-station, lighting columns, landscaping and associated works.
The news comes ahead of the building of a McDonald’s drive-thru at Merrie Gardens, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Public consultation on the electric charging plans is set to end on 27th March, with a statutory decision date of 20th April.

Judging by the pictures they are taking land where you can park about twenty cars and make a space where you can only put 8 of a specific type?
It seems to be the trend, a fast food food outlet next to a fast charging electric car station. I have no doubt that the likes of Costa coffee, Macdonalds and the KFC’s of this world are behind the scenes promoting this arrangement.
Put the charging stations in garden centres instead, thankfully the big corporate fast food industry has not taken them over. (I haven’t used the word “yet” at the end of that sentence but was tempted to do so.)
8 empty bays that will be then
8 empty bays then
High demand for electric charging bays well done
Oh give it up EVs are a dead end who’s buying the crap ? or should i say all on lease deals..
Some positive news for a change, is the island finally
