Further race details have been revealed by organisers of this year’s Tour of Britain, which will conclude here on the Isle of Wight on Sunday 11th September 2022.
18 of the world’s best cycle teams are expected to take part in the Tour, which is Britain’s largest free to attend event.
The final stage, which is being dubbed the biggest sporting event ever to come to the Island, will see an estimated 100,000 spectators line the route, with around 10,000 of those coming from the mainland.
It has been revealed that a ‘Ride the Route’ sportive will take place on Saturday 10th, followed by an exclusive Q&A evening with cycling celebrities.
On race day itself, the stage will begin late morning and finish in the late afternoon. Activities at the start will be focused on schools and kids cycling, with an amateur TT event at the finish – with suggestions it will be a hilly end to the race.
Organisers are remaining tight-lipped about the finish location and the wider route, but have revealed that the start location will be announced next Thursday. The finish location will be announced in March but the full route won’t be known until April.
An official sponsor for the Isle of Wight stage is yet to be found and big pockets will be needed as it comes with a whopping £100,000 + VAT price tag.
The Isle of Wight Council is heavily involved in the event and hopes that it will showcase the Island’s scenery, showcase the cycle network and encourage visitors to come to both the event and over a longer period of time.
The race, which will begin in Aberdeen, will be broadcast live on ITV4 and further afield through Eurosport.
Well done guys, great news for the island. Even tho I personally have zero interest in cycling, I welcome this advent with open arms.
Now just wait for the negative comments to come flooding in from the usual suspects.
Islands scenery, that’s a joke, building sites in Ryde, closed shops in Newport and Sandown, there are enough road accidents right now, just think what it will be like when this lot descent here.
If you live on the Isle of Wight and that is all that you can see you are wasting a tremendous priviledge.
And yet no motor bikes allowed for a weekend?whilst these slow moving mobile obstructions are allowed to “enjoy the scenery “?how many Councillors see this as a Brown envelope money maker “for themselves”!

That means 90,000 Islanders looking on…. that’s 75% of the whole Island population. I think most islanders will stay well away indoors to avoid the mayhem….
Awesome, another event for the usual killjoys to complain about. Bring it on!
100,000 spectators – get real. Just the lycra clad numpties who cause as much disruption to the traffic flow as possible with their selfish attitudes. This non-event is the last thing the island needs. Won’t even bring in any money as none of them will be staying here. Get rid of it.
