A driver who attempted to park, but ended up mounting the pavement and crashing into the front of a shop on Ryde’s busiest street, is being comforted by emergency services this afternoon (Tuesday).
It was at around 13:50 that Union Street was closed to all traffic as emergency services responded to reports of a car having collided with a property.
2 fire engines from Ryde and Newport were mobilised to the scene, alongside Police.
First responders arrived to find that a brand new Kia Picanto – with an automatic gearbox – had crashed at low speed into the front of clothing shop, Zabre.
The female driver was assisted from the vehicle and handed a chair to sit down on, as confused shoppers walked past the incident.
Firefighters have simply pushed the Kia, which has sustained minimal front end damage, back onto the road and into a parking space.
Union Street has now reopened.
We saw a nan attempting to park outside Yelfs hotel not long ago. It took around six or more attempts to reverse into a space big enough to park two cars in, he could’ve driven in easily.
It is worrying to see this level of incompetence seeing as they’ve been deemed safe by someone to pass the driving test!
His friend was coaching him in the space as well!
There are too many people driving on Island Roads
who cannot drive!
It makes one wonder how do these people pass their
driving tests.
I thought the old days of showing ones leg was a
thing of the past, but it does make one wonder.
Everyday I see vehicles veering across the centre
road markings.

You can bet that after the car was pushed into a parking spot an unempathetic traffic warden slapped a ticket on it.
Not if it’s a Vauxhall Astra
One parks along Union Street ALL DAY and the
Wardens obviously don’t see it or turn a blind eye.
They seem to have selectiveitus who they give tickets
to.
Maybe a trip to Specsavers is needed!
Hilarious! Next time I have trouble parking I will get the fire brigade to get me a chair and park it for me! I can’t stop laughing!!
