A driver who attempted to park, but ended up mounting the pavement and crashing into the front of a shop on Ryde’s busiest street, is being comforted by emergency services this afternoon (Tuesday).
It was at around 13:50 that Union Street was closed to all traffic as emergency services responded to reports of a car having collided with a property.
2 fire engines from Ryde and Newport were mobilised to the scene, alongside Police.
First responders arrived to find that a brand new Kia Picanto – with an automatic gearbox – had crashed at low speed into the front of clothing shop, Zabre.
The female driver was assisted from the vehicle and handed a chair to sit down on, as confused shoppers walked past the incident.
Firefighters have simply pushed the Kia, which has sustained minimal front end damage, back onto the road and into a parking space.
Union Street has now reopened.
