A local choir is aiming to raise funds for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – inviting members of the public whose lives have been touched by the air ambulance service throughout its 16-year history.
Former patients, their friends and family are invited to a concert on Saturday 5th July at Newport Minster to help commemorate and celebrate the local life-saving charity. Supporters of the charity are also being urged to help raise vital funds and join in the celebration.
The performance will commence at 14:30 and will feature an afternoon of songs from films, musicals and other genres.
Admission is free to everyone, with a retiring collection following the concert in aid of the charity’s Operation Airbase appeal – a £3.6million appeal to relocate the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance airbase to a site near Southampton Airport.
The airbase move will improve response times to every patient on the Isle of Wight who finds themselves in desperate need of critical care.
Robin Burnet, Phoenix Choir Musical Director, says:
“As a beneficiary of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, I can testify personally to the wonderful service they provide. Anyone of us, at any time, may need their assistance.
“By supporting Operation Airbase, which will bring their base closer to the Island and therefore reduce travel time, we are in effect helping ourselves if it is ever necessary to call upon their potentially life saving help.
“As this is the choir’s farewell performance, we would like to say a collective ‘thank you’, and we hope that former patients, their families and members of the general public will all join us for this afternoon event.”
