A 28-year-old man from Sandown has been handed 8 penalty points and ordered to pay more than £220 after fleeing the scene of a crash outside Lynnbottom tip last August.
Toby Redpath, of Cliff Way, appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court last week (22nd April) where he admitted failing to stop after a road traffic collision on Briddlesford Road, near the entrance to the Lynnbottom Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 19:30 on 1st August last year to reports of a Ford Transit van having collided with a tree.
Redpath fled the scene prompting officers to carry out a search of the area.
The 28-year-old was successfully tracked and detained with the assistance of a Police dog. He was was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, however, the charge was withdrawn at court.
Magistrates imposed 8 penalty points on Tony Redpath’s driving licence. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £138 victim surcharge.

To flee the scene, must be a sign of guilt, otherwise
why flee.
A ban would have been the right option not 8 points.
Seems to be points make prizes
