A pathway between 2 residential streets in East Cowes has been cordoned off this afternoon (Monday) as part of the Police’s investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl.
As first reported by Island Echo, officers have been investigating a report that a 13-year-old school girl was inappropriately touched on Medina Road, Cowes at around 07:30 this morning.
The incident is said to have taken place near the Floating Bridge whilst the teen was on her way to school.
Now, as part of Hampshire Constabulary’s enquiries, a pathway between Hendy Road and Vereker Drive on the other side of the River Medina, in East Cowes, has been cordoned off. Officers arrived in the quiet residential area at lunchtime today.
A spokesperson for the force has confirmed that the scene forms part of the ongoing enquiries into this morning’s incident in Cowes.
It’s said that although it was initially thought the alleged incident took place in Cowes, it has now been confirmed the act happened on the path between Hendy Road and Vereker Drive.
Police are currently searching for a male suspect, described as being in his 20s. No further information about the suspect has been revealed.
It is known, however, that the male is not known to the alleged victim, who was not seriously hurt.

This is a good opportunity for high schools to remind girls about their uniforms. If my daughter was going to school with her skirt rolled up so high that her underwear is exposed, I’d be mortified. Doesn’t make the act of inappropriate touching acceptable, but, perspective.
so bob, dont you think that schools should be educating the boys on how to control themselves? yes the skirts can be a bit much, but believe it or not babies and todlers get sexually assualted too! what the victim is wearing has nothing to do with sexual assualts maybe if the assualter wasnt attracted to children that wouldnt be a problem. people like you are the problem, you are making us go decades back, you dont even know what the victim was wearing they couldve been wearing trousers for all you know? they couldve had a skirt down to their knees, see its people like you that destroy young girls imagine if that poor girl saw your comment of you saying what she was wearing was the issue? she would feel awful about herself and blame herself for what had happened! ive been in her shoes and i know how it feels people like you dont help, imagine if that was your daughter and somebody said something like what you said? you would be furious, so in future i suggest you educate yourself bob
Excuse me but hes a grown ass man. He touched a child, it doesn’t matter what shes wearing. If he can’t control himself he should get the same treatment as a horny dog, chop it off. You’re a complete twat if your believe that what woman and young girls wear should justify the actions of men who need help controlling their ‘urges’. If this happened to your daughter you wouldn’t blame her clothes, its a fucking uniform for gods sake. You’re honestly as bad as the pedophile who sexually assaulted a minor. Honestly grow up if you think a peice of clothing gives you a free pass to rape or sexually assault someone.
If it’s a uniform then your arse cheeks shouldn’t be on show because some people actually find it offensive. I do and so do many others. I don’t find it appealing and attractive – on the contrary, it looks cheap and off putting and you would have to be of a certain sort to be triggered by it. I just don’t think it’s appropriate.
bob, you are talking about CHILDREN, im glad you dont find children attractive!!
You sound rather chavy with your foul mouthed rant. It shows a lack of intelligence.
You know you’re deflecting from an argument about the misogyny against woman and young girls as a grown man justifies a pedophile sexually assaulting a minor, right? So what if I talk chavy? Clearly I have a higher intellectual capacity to understand that a a peice of clothing isn’t a free pass to rape/sexually assault a child. Having a ‘rant’ about how woman are treated in 2022 doesn’t show a lack of intelligence, its an eye opener on how grown men need to grow up and get with the modern times where women have equal right, a woman shouldn’t be judge on what shes wearing, nor does it justify the actions the men who should know better, when they take advances on little girls. Instead of criticising the way they speak, how about you use your voice and opinions on something important, like i dont know voicing the fact a young girl was sexually assaulted and people still blame the victoms as if they were asking for it, no one asks to be raped.
How does anything in your comment make you sound like a chav?! Let’s call a woman names because she dares to voice her opinion…which is a very good one! The victim blaming in these comments is disgusting, exactly the type of thing that stops people coming forward. Men walk around shirtless, yet they aren’t subjected to abuse because of their attire. Would you call a male ‘cheap’ because of the way he dresses?? Ridiculous double standards. But no, a poor 13 year old child should wear a skirt down to her ankles to avoid any risk of predators…honestly, can you hear yourselves?!
Your statement “It’s a fucking uniform” is somewhat unfortunate, to say the least!
Whats unfortunate is people think sexualising a childs school uniform is appropriate. Its clothing children wear to learn, she didn’t wear it for him nor does having a short skirt mean you’re asking to be sexually assaulted. I apologise if strong language offends you but its ridiculous that people think sexualising what a teenage girl is wearing is okay.
Honest disgusting if you can justify his actions over what she was wearing.
Sophie, I really don’t think Bob was justifying this assault by this scum bag over what the girl was wearing. I think the comment is a general one regarding the shortness of some girls skirts, which I tend to agree with him.
you see here sunshine, if you actually notice, cowes highschool is run by a massive company of OAT and they decide what students wear. they dont take into consideration that girls can be tall. i dont think you should be blaiming the short skirts is going to resolve the issue you need to realise that a grown man has touched a child, you people keep taking away from the crime and keep finding things to disregard and victim blame i think you are forgetting she is 13 you dont know what she was wearing so talking about the victims clothing honestly has no revelavancy
“Perspective”? I think it is you that needs to get some perspective. Whatever she was wearing is irrelevant – classic misogynistic case of victim blaming. This is 2022 not 1722 . Unbelievable.
literally she is a child, i was assualted at her age and apparently i lead the man on who assualted me classic misogyny stopped my case becoming one.
Bob’s attitude is brought about by years of subtle brainwashing.
As our courts and prisons are now over filled with the worlds worst as well as some of our own then the mantra is to ‘blame’ the victims of crime, as it is easy and cheap, whereas catching, punishing and deporting the perpetrators is not
So all the blame falls on us ‘we should not leave windows open, we should not wear quality items of jewellery or use high end electronic items or wear alluring clothes.
I would prefer the old way of harsh and long term prison and cull all unvetted immigration and replace it with work visas.
Hope the child’s family find the creep
Know what, you’re right. Having your arse cheeks on show should be encouraged by the DfE and backed up by the Council. I see where you’re coming from. My profound and heartfelt apologies. I am now aware of and apologise for my mistake.
bob. stop sexualising children it doesnt look good. you already mentioned you daughter in this and it seems to be strange that you are commenting on childrens “bum cheeks” care to explain??
No You haven’t learnt anything Bob. You didn’t learn that Your statement could shame victims. Especially one of such an impressionable age. You may as well have said any female showing more skin than You regard as acceptable, deserves to be assaulted. Also sexualising a child, probably before She has even given any thought about how boys or men may look at her appearance. If You had taken on board the previous comments, then You really would have learnt something.
Bob, quite simply YOU are wrong.
Children, teens and ladies fill beaches, beach side cafes, etc all Summer.
So in your weird twisted mind they then are wrong and are inviting sex perverts to grope them?
The authorities love suckers like you as they can use the blame of the victims to then justify rising crime, rather than admit that unchecked newcomers have filled prisons to over capacity.
Imagine if YOU were wearing shorts and a male fondled your bits and used the excuse you excited him.
Think.
You can bet your bottom dollar these youngsters leave the house with skirts ‘normal’ length, then get down the road & turn over the waistbands to shorten them. This has and, always will happen.
A female should be able to wear what length skirt or top they want & not get crap from anyone. Let alone some perv touching them! SHE’S A CHILD! They should be safe, not walking out & thinking is it them who’s going to be touched by some perv. This is totally unacceptable in any circumstance and disgusting even more because she was in a school uniform. Think before you type in future.
You’re absolutely right. My apologies, I am thinking the hardest I can as I type.
What an inappropriate comment to make! basically laying blame with girls/woman for wearing short skirts! Must mean we want to be sexually assaulted…. Get in the right century please and teach these boys/men that a woman’s clothing isn’t her consent for sexual assault!
I totally agree. When you see some of the uniform it beggars belief. Skirts are way too short. Knee length is appropriate. What are the Head Teachers thinking of allowing girls to wear their skirts so short.
I know I’ll get ‘blasted’ for this, but really. Dress accordingly for school.
Who cares what she was wearing the main thing is it shouldn’t of happened in the first place and the guy that’s Alleged to of done this should be locked up. I hope the girl is ok and will be able to move on from this
Totally agree with you. It makes no difference what she was wearing it should never have happened, how traumatised will she be now probably thinking that she isn’t safe going out? I hope that if it goes to court the guy doesn’t get off with excuses for his actions for example that his pet rabbit/fish has just died. There is no excuse for an adult sexually abusing a child. My thoughts are with her and her family.
the thing with cowes highschool is that they dont make the uniform to fit students they dont make the skirts long enough to go knee length and if you cant control yourself around a child with their knees showing i think you may be the problem?
all im saying now is i hope non of your family have to go through this because the support you are giving is awful i also hope your female relavtives see what you have said because its disgusting and your male because if was a boy you would all act differently as there is no “short skirt” to blame the issue is the assualter in this age women should be able to wear anything and feel comfortable and safe!
Exactly bunni. Most all beaches are naturally filled with people wearing minimal attire but that is not seen as giving permission to act out vile desires onto vulnerable people.
Bob is so wrong but will never see it.
Hope they catch the person concerned sooner rather than later. Next time the victim may not be so lucky. We pay enough to the Police fund via council tax, so let’s see a few more in the area please!
Something a bit off with this. first it happened in Cowes and now East Cowes. But i hope they catch the dirty scumbag wherever it happened!
That is awful. I hope she is ok.
