Police are working to identify a man who is alleged to have inappropriately touched a 13-year-old girl on her way to school this morning (Monday).
Officers are investigating a report that the teenager was sexually assaulted by a man in his 20s, whom she did not know.
The incident is said to have occurred on Medina Road, close to the Floating Bridge, at some point between 07:30 and 08:00.
The girl was not seriously hurt.
An investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened and officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries.
UPDATE – Police have now confirmed that they have cordoned off a pathway in East Cowes as part of their enquiries.
It has been established that the alleged incident happened between Hendy Road and Vereker Drive, not in Cowes as first thought.

What a shame we can’t don the pitch forks and torches anymore! these sick f#cks are crawling out the woodwork now
Agreed although the strength of feeling against scum like this often gets directed at the wrong people. That’s why the police should be the ones to deal with it – we should be pushing for them to be more effective not taking the law into our own hands – unless perhaps these people are caught in the act.
Don’t be silly. The police and CPS are apart of the problem. That little girl that was taken at fort Victoria a year or so ago, the guy got let out on bail? HE TOUCHED UP A LITTLE GIRL AND THEY RELEASED HIM BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY. All you got to do is look at cases in recent history ON the island, to see that there is no consistency in punishment. I mean there was that channel 4 doc filmed on the Island where the guy got arrested and the police found him at the cinema watching kids films after he was released. The evidence is mounting to argue the opposite of asking the police to do more because if they do they can be overruled by the CPS to release them.
“The girl was not seriously hurt.”
Do you mean “The girl was not physically hurt.”?
There could be other impacts.
I am sure there must be cctv in the area …..
And re other comment no physical injury, but who knows how this may affect her in the present and future ….
You are so right…
Waiting for Wighter to complain that IE doesn’t give enough coverage to old men being sexually assaulted.
Actually more older and disabled adults are sexualy abused than children, there is an adult safeguard team same as children. Just never gets publicity and often unable to prove due to the abused person age , understanding or disability. Not condoning this man’s behaviour and if police find evidence then should be dealt severe with
Castration is the way to go…..
