Prospective parliamentary candidate for the Isle of Wight West, Bob Seely, launched his election campaign at a rally in Newport on Thursday evening. Speaking to a crowd at Newport Parish Centre, Bob said that if re-elected he would continue to campaign for a better deal for the Island, fighting for every Islander, and championing the Isle of Wight. Since 2017, and working with others such as the Council, the NHS and voluntary and community groups, Bob has helped to deliver £175 million of additional Government investment in the Island. Talking after the meeting, Bob said:
“It’s been a pleasure to serve the Island and to be its local champion in Parliament. I’m standing again because although we’ve done a lot there is more to do.” “Delivering a better deal has been a team effort and I want to thank every person who has helped me in campaigning for the Island.”
As a former soldier, Bob said that service was at the heart of everything that he tried to do, fighting to make sure that Islanders were listened to. Bob said his 6-point plan for the Island was;
- Campaigning for jobs and investment in the Island, such as the many extra apprenticeships in the Island’s growing maritime and aerospace hub on the Medina.
- Campaign for the iconic Military Road. Bob has already proposed a plan of action.
- Campaigning to get a better deal on the ferries. Bob is working with companies who want to bring in new services and has proposed a new law to regulate cross Solent ferries.
- Working with Police and Crime boss Donna Jones to deliver more police and safer streets, including 30 extra police for the Island, new police stations, dedicated roads traffic officers and named bobbies for every community.
- Protecting the Island’s green spaces whilst prioritised genuinely affordable homes for Islanders. Labour have promised to “bulldoze our planning laws.”
- Working with Island groups to deliver a better deal for the Island.
Islander Councillor Ian Ward said:
“It’s sad to see Bob go as the last MP for the whole of the Isle of Wight, but I want to thank him for his work, especially in helping to keep Sandown school open – it was the first thing he achieved as the Island’s MP back in 2017. “And as a Veteran, it’s been great to know that the Island has been represented by a former soldier.”
Cowes resident Siobhan Barney said:
“Bob is an Islander, but as important, Bob also knows his way around Westminster having served the island since 2017. In a world that electorally is about to see huge change, that depth of experience is invaluable to all of us who love the island and who want to ensure the best for its future.”

A vote for Bob is a vote for more of the same. No doctors appointments available, a run down health service, turds being pumped into the seas around us and if we’re lucky, a strongly worded but insincere letter of complaint to the local ferry companies at the point where it would make the least amount of difference. What’s not to like?
And a burgeoning,under the radar influx of noticably increased numbers of ‘health-workers’ from abroad competing for resources/homes if you have eyes to see,especially in Ryde.
And how exactly has Bob’s party been able to stop this influx over the last 14 years? Or ensure enough trained healthcare staff are available to employ? Not by training indigenous folks for those jobs, that’s for sure.

£175 million pounds of addditional government funding. What a charlatan. Over the last 14 years, the Conservative Government has slashed central funding to local authorities, forced councils to increase Council Tax to meet their statutory obligations and left them with no choice but to cut services. We then have to go cap in hand to Westminster to bid for small pots of money which is so tightly regulated that it often cannot be spent. It is a massive centralisation of money and power from a government which claims to give control back to local people. Seely had done nothing during his time as an MP until the last couple of months when suddenly he appears in the local media every day claiming to have achieved something which he has not.
Yes indeed. I would like to see a breakdown of the £175 million and how he imagines that these funds were raised by him. For example, he probably claims that he was responsible for the £20 million over 10 years for Ryde. Don’t forget that this money was taken from levelling funds intended to help deprived urban areas, so Rishi could direct it to “safe” Tory seats.
