Firefighters were called into action in Newport this afternoon (Tuesday) when a car was reported to be on fire.
1 appliance was mobilised to Fairlee Road, close to the slip road junction, at just gone 14:00.
The crew found that although there was no fire, the vehicle’s engine was overheating. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots before a hose reel was deployed to damp down the affected areas.
The incident caused lengthy tailbacks in the area but the vehicle was swiftly moved off the carriageway.
It’s been a fairly quiet day and week for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, although Newport’s wholetime appliance was mobilised to a false alarm at St Mary’s Hospital earlier on today.
