UPDATED: ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN EARLY HOURS CRASH ON FAIRLEE ROAD

1 person has been seriously injured following a crash in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene of the incident on Fairlee Road at around 01:00.

Island Echo understands that a motorcyclist was involved in the crash and was conveyed to nearby St Mary’s Hospital.

Police closed the road between Halberry Lane and Snooks Hill for over 4 hours whilst investigations took place, re-opening the main road in and out of Newport at around 04:30.

UPDATE @ 09:41 – It has been confirmed that a 20-year-old male motorcyclist suffering from serious injuries has been taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Emergency services were called to reports of a motorcycle leaving the carriageway and colliding with a wall at 01:08.
