Reports of an object floating in the water near Hurst Castle led to the launch of Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat this evening (Tuesday).
At 18:50, Solent Coastguard tasked the volunteer crew of Yarmouth Lifeboat to reports from a member of the public of something floating east of Milford, heading towards Hurst Castle.
The Severn-class All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) left Yarmouth at best speed and was on scene within just 15 minutes. The crew instantly spotted the reported object and recovered what turned out to be a green and black surfer’s kite.
Within a few minutes it was established that the owner of the equipment was safe and well and had reported the kite lost/missing to HIs Majesty’s Coastguard earlier in the day.
With no further action required, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
