Nobody was located during a major multi-agency search in the West Wight yesterday evening (Sunday). Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were alerted to the concern for welfare at around 17:00 following reports of a man seen up at the Tennyson Monument in Freshwater. HM Coastguard crews from Ventnor and Needles were tasked to assist in the efforts as was the Coastguard Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent. Freshwater Independent Lifeboat was also drafted in, searching the water between The Needles and Compton Bay. Despite an extensive search via land, sea and air – including the use of a Police drone – there was no sign of the man in the area. The search concluded at around 22:00.

I have been to the monument many times. There was never a very expensive search for me, why?
If you have no family left,or friends, nobody would know, the support system for those people is non existent on the island, heres some pills, see you in six months is the attitude.

Shut up twat i hope you need help one day or get pushed
Me too, Tony. I think there’s probably something vital missing from the report which would have explained the reason for the alert and alarm.
Quite – half a story again or lacking the full information.
The article states quite clearly “reports of concerns for welfare” so presumably someone has phoned the authorities with information and concerns, perhaps knowing someone is vulnerable/suicidal etc. Surely that’s enough information to understand the background to the story.
There is an opticians in Freshwater should they need to attend.
