Police are in attendance on Fairlee Road in Newport this afternoon (Tuesday) where a car has left the carriageway and come to rest in a ditch.
Emergency services were called to the incident, which is confirmed as involving just 1 vehicle, at 14:38.
The maroon-coloured car – thought to be a Nissan Qashqai – has narrowly avoided hitting a lamp post after swerving off the road near to the water works.
The car has come to a rest facing towards Newport on the wrong side of the carriageway.
No one has been injured.
There are some delays in the area – in addition to those caused by temporary traffic lights – with Southern Vectis advising of delays to Routes 5, 9 and 49.

It’s idiots defending idiots on here, that should tell you something!….the idiots stick together like shxt to a blanket…none of them have any respect for life…Tomorrow is another day and it won’t be long before we read another avoidable crash…
Its mainly caused by the Nut behind the wheel
More idiots will be along soon….I have noticed a large increase in drivers driving far too aggressive today…
Thank goodness there was no one using the other carriageway at the time, on the phone were we ?
Probably hit that ramp in the toad and took off

The appalling amount of RTA’s every day it seems. What is going on?
More bad driving on the IW
Too many cars, plus too many idiots, plus usually too fast, equals too many accidents. I don’t want anyone hurt but would rather they took more care.
Thank God I’m a pensioner with a bus pass. I feel safe on top of a double decker, from where I can watch these idiot drivers.
