No animals or staff were injured when a fire broke out at a veterinary practice in Ryde last night (Wednesday), it has been confirmed.
Fire crews from Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin were called to Island VetCare on Brading Road at just before 20:00, after a fire was reported inside the building.
The incident, which involved a tumble dryer in the kitchen area of the property, was extinguished by firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service using 2 hose reel jets and 1 main jet.
Island VetCare has confirmed that all animals in its care are safe.
A spokesperson for the veterinary practice has said:
“Overnight we experienced a fire at the practice. We are very relieved to confirm that no animals or staff were injured.
“As a result, there may be disruption to appointments and procedures today while we assess the situation. Our team will be contacting any clients whose appointments are affected as soon as possible.”
The practice says its reception team are now available to take calls and book appointments, with hopes that services will return to normal later this afternoon.
Clients have been asked not to phone the practice unless it is an emergency so that phone lines remain available for urgent cases while staff deal with the aftermath of the fire.
