Southern Water says they are continuing to work to restore water supply to homes and businesses in the Newport area, some of whom have been without water for around 24 hours.
Earlier this morning the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called when a 450mm main burst around 20 metres away from where contractors had been working yesterday evening.
Now a second water main has burst on Forest Road on the outskirts of Newport, resulting in further repair work for the utility company.
Bottled water has been made available at the top of Godric Road off Staplers Road (Pan Meadows) and door-to-door deliveries are being made to vulnerable customers.
Southern Water says they apologise to customers in Newport without water this evening.
UPDATE @ 19:55 – Southern Water has released an update following today’s disruptions:
“We’re still working hard to deal with the burst and network issues affecting supplies to Newport, Isle of Wight.
“Our apologies for the disruption this is continuing to cause.

“Our site at Godric Road will remain open until at least 9PM for people to collect water.
“The team at Godric Road are incredibly grateful for the patience shown by our customers – and for the ice creams and fizzy drinks which some kind people have given them.
UPDATE @ 23:00 – A further update has been issued.
“We are sorry for the disruption and the frustration people must be feeling if they are affected by the burst and network problems.
“Our teams are working through the night to put things right.
“We will keep updating when there is fresh news.
“If you have been put out of water for a long period, you will be entitled to compensation and you can learn more here.”
UPDATE FRIDAY – After 36 hours of disruption, Southern Water have confirmed that the water main has been repaired and supplies have been restored to the affected properties.
Engineers worked through the night to resolve the situation.

Also there is no water in part of Wootton. No bottled water being supplied there.
no, but it was available at the top of staplers if you wanted to go & get it (not really that far) & if vunerable people needed it, they would have delivered it if asked (or helpful neighbours could go fetch some)
Why make a point about people being without water for 24 hours!!!!!!
