A new flood alert has been issued for the Eastern Yar this afternoon (Wednesday) after 15mm of rain was recorded at Wroxall over the past 24 hours.
The Environment Agency says that water levels in the Eastern Yar remain high following a period of intense rain.
At Alverstone and Sandown, the river level is stabilising and will begin to fall in response to the rain recorded overnight. However, some minor impact flooding of roads – including Golf Links and Morton Common – and nearby land is expected to continue.
Isolated showers are forecast to continue into the evening. Whilst these showers may cause an increase in water level, property flooding is not expected. That said, additional rainfall may increase flood impacts on land, roads and possibly gardens.
From tomorrow, the weather remains dry and the situation will improve but the Environment Agency will continue to monitor the forecast.
Islanders are being asked to avoid walking, driving or cycling through ponded water, especially at Brading Marshes. The sluice gates at Bembridge have been in operation to reduce the water level on the marshes but flooding will still be present.
So does this mean Morton Common will be flooded again tomorrow even though the rain has stopped?

And it will remain so, has anyone stopped to think what 15mm is? makes it sound problematic, but this is 1.5 cm or less than half an inch in English! For goodness sake!
Let me guess, very few will ignore the warnings and head out anyway on their daft commute and clog up the roads, not many clever people about at the moment. Lol.
