A new team of highly trained ‘digi dogs’ have now been deployed across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight following the successful completion of their specialist training.
As previously reported by Island Echo in February, the digital detection dogs have been introduced to help sniff out concealed electronic devices such as mobile phones and storage hardware.
They have now completed their intensive 8-week training course and are fully licensed to assist police with a growing range of investigations.
The dogs’ noses have been trained to detect:
- Mobile phones
- Laptops
- USB drives
- SIM cards
- Crypto wallets
- Hard drives
- Spy cameras
- Tracking devices
These digital items are often used by criminals to store or share illegal content, making the dogs’ abilities a vital tool in uncovering hidden evidence.
The four-legged recruits are already active across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Thames Valley, supporting high-priority operations with teams including Child Abuse Investigation Units, Priority Crime Teams, and Commercial Vehicle Units.
Tim Lawrence, Police Dog Instructor, has said:
“We are incredibly proud of our dogs and their handlers.
“They are already making a significant impact in investigations across the forces and playing a crucial role in helping us solve complex cases and protect our communities.”
What about dogs trained to detect speeding
motorists.
Bionic robot dogs are available in the modern world
let them roam the streets to detect speed.
Unitree Go2 Air are excellent items from what I have read.
That’s great news
What the hell are you two on?
Great news. These are really intelligent dogs and hard working. Maybe to level the field a bit, bring in three of those Alsatians (German shepherds). They have a good strong bite and love (fast food), people running.
