New steps leading down to the beach at Compton Bay have opened in time for the Summer. The new wooden steps and landings replace the old ones that were eroding due to coastal wear and tear and may not have lasted the holiday season. The Isle of Wight Council’s Public Rights of Way department led the project, which was funded by an Access for All grant provided by the Isle of Wight National Landscape (IWNL), formerly Isle of Wight AONB Partnership. The stairs provide safe access to one of the Island’s most popular beaches which is enjoyed by many residents and visitors all year round. The council worked in partnership with the IWNL, the National Trust (landowner) and Natural England and attention will now turn to repairing other beach accesses, such as Brook, Chilton Chine and Orchard Bay, in the coming weeks.

All good just a shame camper and van’s can’t go to upper fields,in the summer ..bit anal.. bloody cars use van bit and not go under barrier like it’s a restiction..so wasted really…
It’ll all fall into the sea soon enough. Bit of a waste of money really.
Nice! Just sucks they decide to penalise the campers by restricting access when people just want to enjoy the beach, the campers don’t leave the mess, it’s the sports cars that camp and leave rubbish bags and do donuts in the grass
Why build the steps over the part that has already slipped and moved, surely that’s not a great plan?
Well done, IWC/AONB/NT!
Is there a plan/funding to keep moving them inland as the coast falls away?
good.. now do Whale Chine PLEASE!!!!!
