Greenmount Primary School is expanding its therapeutic classroom approach from September following early success in boosting pupils’ wellbeing, confidence and engagement.
The rollout follows the success of the initiative, with staff reporting that pupils have grown in confidence, built stronger relationships and become more engaged in their learning. The expansion means even more children will benefit from calm, nurturing learning environments where they feel safe, valued and ready to achieve.
The therapeutic classroom model is underpinned by the Thrive Approach, recognising that children learn best when they feel emotionally secure, understood and supported.
The initiative also reflects Greenmount Primary’s recently launched vision and values, which aim to create a caring, inclusive community where every child feels they belong. By embedding Respect, Inclusivity, Nurture and Focus into everyday teaching and interactions, the school hopes to help pupils flourish both personally and academically.
Rebecca Day, Executive Headteacher, said:
“At Greenmount Primary, we’re incredibly proud of the positive difference our therapeutic classrooms have already made to pupils’ wellbeing, and expanding the approach is an important step in bringing our new vision for the school to life.
“We know that when children feel emotionally secure they become more confident, more resilient and better able to engage with learning. We look forward to extending those benefits to even more children and families from the new academic year.”
The continued investment forms part of the school’s wider commitment to ensuring wellbeing and achievement go hand in hand. By creating environments where children feel understood, respected and supported, Greenmount Primary aims to equip every pupil with not only the knowledge and skills to succeed academically, but also the confidence and emotional resilience to flourish throughout their lives.
As preparations continue for the return of pupils in September, the expansion marks another milestone in the school’s ambition to provide an inclusive, nurturing education where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
