Nearly a quarter of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police officers who responded to a national survey say they are planning to resign within the next 2 years or as soon as possible, according to the latest Pay and Morale Report by the Police Federation of England and Wales.
The report, published earlier this week, reveals that 22% of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary officers are considering leaving the service, highlighting growing concerns about pay, morale and wellbeing within the force.
The 2024 survey gathered responses from 943 officers across the Force area. It found that 74% feel financially worse off than they were 5 years ago, and 12% say they ‘never’ or ‘almost never’ have enough money to cover basic essentials. More than half – 54% – are dissatisfied with their pay, despite a 4.75% pay rise earlier this year.
The Police Federation says officer pay has fallen by around 20% in real terms since 2010.
Nationally, 76% of officers say their pay does not reflect the dangers they face. A third of officers across the country report struggling to afford essentials such as food, rent or heating.
Locally, 91% of Hampshire & Isle of Wight officers say they do not feel respected by the Government, while 50% report low morale. Just 15% say they are double crewed at all times while on duty.
Violence against officers remains a concern, with 18% of Hampshire Police respondents reporting injuries from work-related violence that required medical attention in the past year.
In a further sign of disillusionment, 71% of officers said they would not recommend joining the police to others, and 70% said they do not feel valued within the service.

I would think you would get similar negative responses if you asked any group of workers how they are feeling, particularly under this caring, sharing government.
The Police should be given more money for the
dangerous job they have to do, day in day out.
Well said. I for one would not do their job and lets face it, they have to deal with the scum of the earth on a daily basis. It is a dangerous and thankless job. For some of the situations they are put in, the army should be taking over, especially from the Para’s and Royal Marines. Try pissing them off and see what you get.
