Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat, The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, a co-responder and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have all been involved in assisting an unwell sailor onboard a yacht off the Isle of Wight this morning (Monday).
Shortly before 06:30, Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was tasked to assist an individual with chest pains on board a yacht around 10 miles south of The Needles lighthouse.
The volunteers of Yarmouth Lifeboat made best speed towards the target yacht and were on scene by 07:00. They spent around 45 minutes stabilising, preparing and transferring the casualty onto the lifeboat.
The lifeboat soon made an about-turn and returned to Yarmouth Harbour, mooring up alongside the quay at around 09:30.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from The Needles met with the lifeboat alongside a Co-Responder from Freshwater and a local ambulance crew.
The casualty – a 75 year-old man – has now been taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
