An inquest into the death of a motorcyclist who died in a single vehicle road traffic collision on Military Road has concluded more than 2 years after his death.
Earlier this month, under Section 9C of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009, HM Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray concluded an inquest into the death of 70-year-old Robert Ian Forman, who died after losing control of his motorcycle on Military Road on 16th August 2023.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency service crews were called to the scene between Chale and Brighstone at around 15:45.
The inquest established that Forman, originally from Leeds in West Yorkshire, lost control of his Honda motorcycle, with the vehicle coming to rest in a ditch, where it landed on top of him.
Police, paramedics and flying doctors from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) tended to Robert, but sadly, nothing could be done to save his life. Haemothorax and transection of the aorta were given as the cause of death.
Coroner Sumeray concluded that Robert, who lived in Gunville, died as a result of a road traffic collision.

Just out of interest, why has it taken 2 plus years for this to happen?
It is a disgrace that the Coroner should yet again have taken over two years to conclude an very straightforward Section 9 inquest.
Motorcyclist found dead in ditch with machine on top of him and it takes two years to conclude he died as a result of the incident? No shxx Sherlock . That will put the poor man’s family’s minds at rest for sure.
