Emergency services including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are responding to a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a van on Middle Road between Chessell and Tapnell this afternoon (Friday).
The crash has occurred near the junction with Broad Lane at Shalcombe on what is locally known as Capons Corner.
A white Renault Traffic van heading towards Newport from Freshwater has collided with a motorbike coming in the opposite direction.
It’s said that substantial damage has been caused to both vehicles, with the motorcyclist receiving first aid on the carriageway.
Police are on the scene at what they have described as a ‘serious collision’. The air ambulance is also en route, having been scrambled from its Thruxton base to assist on-scene paramedics.
Traffic is building in both directions, with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.
UPDATE @ 15:05 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed at the scene.
UPDATE @ 15:40 – After around 20 minutes at the scene, the Air Ambulance has taken off again and is heading back to base.
The injured motorcyclist – a man in his 50’s – has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance, whilst the driver of the van has sustained no injuries.
UPDATE @ 17:10 – The road still remains closed whilst enquiries continue.

Agreed, it’s becoming stupid now. Echo need to ban the IP address not just the username.
That won’t work for several reasons.
1. On a PC it is trivial to change your IP address using a VPN, TOR or merely spoofing your router’s MAC address and reconnecting.
2. If on a phone, just restarting your it will allocate it a new IP address.
3. A lot of people are on cheaper broadband contracts are on CGNAT, meaning they share their public IP address with several other customers. If you ban an IP address you are also banning several innocent people.

Noticed a lot of mud on the road from Shalfleet from farm traffic recently which can be treacherous for motorcycles.

Yes, this time of year some parts of the island are a no go for me as the farmers treat the roads as if it was a private lane. Spraying mud all other the place. Worst than ice. There are many regulations that state they must clean the roads if they make the mess but is never enforced. It’s an epidemic of not giving a shit about other road users.
