Extensive delays are being experienced by drivers on Newport’s Fairlee Road following a collision between a motorcycle and a car this afternoon (Thursday).
Several police units alongside 2 teams of paramedic colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance mid-way along the main road – in the proximity of North Fairlee Farm and the ‘HP House’.
It’s understood that a motorcyclist is being treated at the scene for injuries sustained during the impact.
Delays are most prolific on the Northbound carriageway in which the incident has occurred, with extensive queues also building up towards Newport.
The condition of the casualty is currently unknown.
UPDATE @ 16:53 – The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now mobilised an appliance from Ryde to the scene on Fairlee Road, with a second appliance from Cowes being stood down en-route.
Meanwhile, traffic queues in and around Newport are beginning to build to heightened levels as Northbound traffic at the scene is obstructed. Queues are stretching back to the dual carriageway and St Mary’s Junction. Traffic towards Newport is beginning to queue to Lushington Hill.
No one is thought to be trapped with the fire service being present to provide scene safety.
Sorry for the people involved in this accident. The delay it caused was massive if the traffic was backed up in the direction of Lushington Hill, crikey. And they want to build many more homes on the island which will mean MANY MORE CARS. The island just can’t take it.
Many more cars? The council wants us all on e scooters instead, it’s how they justify the destruction of the island to themselves, their vision of Our future is bleak.
