The 2nd phase of an Isle of Wight housing development has been unveiled.
Filling in the gap on Place Road, between The Range and the new Meadow View Park development, Bourne Developments is seeking permission to build more houses.
In a new application submitted to the Isle of Wight Council’s planning department, the Dorset-based developer is hoping to build 31 properties.
Earlier this year, the first phase of 14 houses was approved for the site, meaning if this second application is successful outline permission will stand for 45 houses, in a range of 2, 3 and 4-bed properties.
In the second phase, 11 of the houses could either be affordably rented or able to buy through an affordable scheme. The remaining could go on the open market.
The outline plans are only seeking permission for access to and layout of the site, so further details like the scale, appearance and landscaping will all be determined in another application.
The 1.3-hectare grassland site stands next to an overgrown and disused historic poultry farm, on which phase one will be built.
You can view the plans, 23/01337/OUT, on the council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 18th September.

when are the council going to put out a statement which says..
“do not bother putting in housebuilding applications for greenfield sites, ever – we won’t approve them and do not put in applications for more houses on brownfield sites, as our current roads, hospital, dentists etc cannot cope with demand already – we won’t approve them”
the queue of traffic in wootton at commuter times stretches from the traffic lights by the cedars, all the way back to fishbourne traffic lights. The queue going into newport stretches from coppins bridge to monkey world and on the other route, all the way back to binfield corner.
are these imbeciles that want to build houses living here, or just destroying the islands environment for cash
So where exactly are people supposed to live? On thr street? I daresay you eould moan about homeless too
Are you stupid? They should be built on the mainland!
Yeah, that’ll work.
With the population of under 60s on the Island falling while the number of over 60s is skyrocketing, ensuring young folk have nowhere affordable to live will just exacerbate this.
You will end up having to go to the mainland for everything if you make the Island unaffordable for the people who provide the services you need.
you think these properties will be affordable? These will be sold probably £400,000 for a 3 bed, and the 11 affordable properties they’re forced to put in will be given to scroungers for the breeding of future criminals, your average working person will be shafted as normal.
Ask your self WHY so many come here to retire.
Many privately will tell you that they moved here as they know longer felt comfortable in their home towns due to the rapid influx of newcomers.
The idea that importing young from such areas will help support the elderly is a myth. As most such arrivals only ever take not give and their scattered offspring are even worse adding to our burden not relieving it
See it how it is
Even the houses, which are very small are, I understand, ranging from £250.00 upwards, nor affordable!!!
£250 each ,what a bargain .
I’ll have four please.
Sorry I know you ment £250,000.
There is no shortage of houses on the island and there are no homeless people.
Think you have that about right, If the idiots at the top can’t, or don’t want to, see the dire situation we are in, what will it take to stop the stupidity ? Civil unrest ?
What dire situation? There are plenty of affordable houses on the island. Far cheaper than on the mainland.
Well said .. when are you going to stand for council election / you have my vote..,
Totally agree, if the island council had a brain they would built a bridge and get the cowes traffic away from newport it just cant cope and now theres plans for more housing, in regards to housing people…..yes it’s important but if you do actually look into it the amount of tax grabbing scammers robbing the system is a joke, ‘ im pregnant I need a property and I deserve one ‘ isnt the attitude if you cant financially support a child you shouldn’t be having them…..harsh but true.
NO MORE FREE SMACK/SWILL HOMES ON OUR ISLAND AND NO MORE SMACK/PISS HEADS SHIPPED OVER HERE INTO THEM FOR FREE
More rubbish houses for the island and yet still no improvement in infrastructure of course. No money in that is there, sheer greed. It will be approved as the council tax income will be the only thing on this councils mind.
When will all these extra houses being built on the IOW come with extra doctors, nurses and dentists?
John, well said.
Stop rehousing council house tenants from the mainland here, and stop giving free housing to people who have only just arrived in this country, then there wouldn’t be a need to build all the new housing estates.
There’s more than enough housing on the Island for the people who live here, it’s the new arrivals that we’re having to build to accommodate.
IOW Council have you ever thought of doing this, making sure that all the derelict properties on the Island are brought back into full use before allowing any further building work whether green or brown field. Once this is done it will not only tidy up everywhere but will also provide accommodation.
Only once that has happened then brown field sites might be considered. However I’m not holding my breath with the council.
A skanky boarded-up house is at the top of St. John’s Road/Green Street/Upper High Street in Ryde. It used to be a sweet shop in the ’70s. It’s been boarded up for years and makes an entrance to ‘Welcome to Ryde’ very appealing; not!
Instead, I’d like the Isle of Wight Council to invest in these properties. It does them up and rents them out to Council applicants, those Caulkheads who find private renting too expensive.
I remember, back in the ’70s, you could pick and choose a council house. Tenants could ask for a swap with another, mainly when a tenant was downsizing or upgrading.
Build a new Hospital first so they can cope with the extra persons
Wouldn’t want to see St Mary’s overwhelmed AGAIN
The Tories promised to build 8 hospitals. You’ll see
I keep saying why won’t they build another hospital but as my husband says there’s no money in that.
I’m hoping it’s being built for refugees and immigrants to our wonderful nation. Let them all in and dilute the gene pool! It’s Gods will, and must be done!
Why is it when some of these, especially the large developments, are proposed that the likes of Southern Water and SSE don’t raise any, shall we say, concerns regarding infrastructure capacities?
We have all too frequent power outages and burst pipes, which, certainly on here, people point out it’s due to a lack of overall capacity.
As regards ‘Community’ facilities, Doctors, Dentists, Post Offices etc, etc. That sort of thing as regards Town Planning was forgotten about many years ago.
The Council are only interested in the increased Council Tax they will get from any developments!
I do despair at the constant building of new homes on greenfield sites. The infrastructure on the Island is nor able to cope. So why keep building
Follow the money.
