More signalling staff issues has seen a number of Island Line trains for this evening (Sunday) cancelled yet again.
South Western Railway, have this morning confirmed that the 18:45, 19:49, 20:49 and 21:49 from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin, the 19:15, 20:19 and 21:19 from Shanklin to Ryde Pier Head and the 23:15 from Ryde Pier Head to St Johns Road have all been cancelled.
This is the 2nd incident in as many days that has seen services cancelled due to the lack of signalling staff.
Island Echo was told last week that 2 members of the signalling team had walked out.
It is unclear if a rail replacement bus service will be provided during these hours between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin and a separate minibus shuttle will run between Ryde Pierhead and Ryde Esplanade.

‘2 members of the signalling team had walked out’ Nice that they’re so financially secure that they can simply walk out of a job (if true).
Plenty of other jobs – perhaps they’ll become bus drivers!
What on earth , this is fast becoming as bad if not worse than the push me pull me non floating heap of junk !!!!!!
People need reliable transport links….
They obviously need more trained staff …
Don’t know why they walked out but they obviously have their reasons…
But they do need back up staff.
Otherwise what was the point of spending all that money on it !!!!!
Nobody has walked out. Get your facts right and stop lying to the public
Forgive me if I’m wrong your only running one train signaling????
As said before, tar mac the entire track and run battery shuttle buses, no need for signals and skilled drivers then.
Trains here are a liability as high voltage dangerous rails have to be constantly checked as the dim will sue if zapped
Well can they at least park the trains at Shanklin Station for now?
It would be really nice and picturesque to be there next to the building that they won an award for recently as part of being such a good railway.
A member of staff hands in their notice is NOT the same as someone walking out. Inciting public reaction by falsifying truths. 1 member of staff, not 2.
This is normal, in every form of employment and business. It is nothing special because its Island Line either. Exactly the same happens on the mainland also.
“Employ spare staff”… really! In the current financial climate, companies should train and pay someone to simply sit and wait for the next person to hand in their notice or go sick?? Laughable.
People are simply being used as puppets to incite unnecessary hate and negative beliefs on a company trying it’s best.
I don’t see IE constantly reporting on taxi drivers that “walk out” or bus drivers that ” walk out”. Wake up.
So many experts on here , I’m sure whatever employment their in are run so efficiently with them at the helm, with plenty of just as efficient and trained employees ready to step up when ever their halos slip!
Errrm…
What happened to a member of Management stepping in in an emergency?
Oh, that’s right…
‘Modern’ Management don’t have a clue about how to do a ‘proper job’…
They just shuffle papers and have meetings these days!!
We do not need a train get rid of it. When it was closed for updating everybody managed.
Shut it down and tarmac the track.
Plenty of jobs on the Island in catering
