Red Funnel has had to cancel a number of crucial commuter crossings on its Red Jet service between West Cowes-Southampton this morning (Monday).
An essential crew member has become unavailable at the last minute, which means that a total of 6 sailings cannot operate.
It’s been confirmed that the 06:55, 08:15 and 09:35 crossings from West Cowes have all been cancelled alongside the 06:15, 07:35 and 08:55 from Southampton.
Red Funnel apologises for the inconvenience caused to your journey.l
Shades of Wight link, poor management, disgusting service. With the amount of times this happens, by now, they should have plans in place to offset this. I’m not a fixed linker, but this scenario is the best advert for it. Really feel for those people who need those early ferries to get to work or important appointments.
This is becoming serious now ..peoples livelihoods are being jeopardise. Its happening every week ferry’s aswell.. when the service is running it was totally s sold out ..I had to get 5am for a 1 o’clock appointment as it was the only ferry available. No lift no hot food and we had to walk up the car ramp because of a problem with the gangway.. we need to all get together and demand a better solution. Its unacceptable
Whilst I agree with the concerns over sudden cancellations- hot food is not an essential part of the journey
The point I’m trying to make is ..its an awful service where nothing seems to work properly. The food is overpriced shite anyway !

Do you know what.. after the last run of cancellations a few weeks ago I talked with my misses about doing something maybe a petition or a protest to the council. Its time now… its quite literally affected my health and finances and I guarantee I’m one of 100’s if not 1000’s …
yes i agree with you entirely ,i was against a fixed link and now i am all for it .it only needs the ball rolling for a referendum .

And so it continues. Yet more lives inconvenienced, some seriously no doubt – but a trite “apology” is fine, is it Red funnel? No its not – time for these useless companies with no resilience to be taken into public ownership and a service prioritising the needs of the Island and NOT the shareholders profits to be put into place.
I agree ..however the government are bound to make it worse not better.. were at the mercy of these companies and we need to have it bought out by government and run by a group of committed island residents. Theres just no consequences for cancelled and delayed service so they’re not too bothered
I feel for the staff. Moral is rock bottom and everything is being cut to the bone for the shareholders profits.

I worked for them years ago in the call centre, my manager came down and put a razor and shaving cream on my desk in front of EVERYONE in the call centre. Very embarrassing (didn’t do much to help my anxiety and made me feel smaller than I already am :P), and let me tell you they do not care about the public but turning a tidy profit. The culture there is very dismissive of peoples problems. So often they would have these confusing offers that often countered other offers they advertised and gave out in those little booklets. So yeah, they don’t care about their staff so don’t be surprised that moral is low. So glad I got picked up by the NHS

This is what happens when you sack a load of staff (as indeed you did last year) and then force rubbish terms of employment on others. No wonder you had problems getting any staff earlier this season!
There was a time when companies had enough staff to cover for ‘unexpected’ sickness/absence, plus, if you got called-in to cover, there was an additional pay premium, not just flat rate!

They still haven’t even fixed customer accounts so that you can redeem your rewards points online, a year or more after their hack. Have made an official complaint but that will no doubt go in the nearest bin. They are a useless company who don’t give a damn about the dreadful service they are offering. They literally would not be able to hold a you know what in a brewery…
Maybe red Funnel could not fill the ferries up, so was not profitable to run a half emty vessel . When the ferry company tells you there is a mechanical breakdown or sickness you have to beleive what they tell you, unless there is a whisle blower
